Becoming an organ donor

You should become an organ donor whether it be now, or when you die. Becoming an organ donor is a great thing because by donating a small part of your body, you are saving a person’s life. They would be for ever in your dept.

Can you imagine one day going to your doctor for a check-up and finding out your life would end in a few short weeks? All your dreams gone down the drain, everything you wanted to do, you wanted to see, wanted to have, never happening. You would no doubt be devastated. Time would stop. How is it that outside, normal people go about their lives unchanged, happy?

Over the next few days it quickly dawns on you how little time you have left to live. You realise that you must try and do as much as possible in this short period of time you have left on this planet. But before you are even able to do that, you suddenly find yourself in a cold hospital full of people dressed in white clothes, rushing around, pushing beeping machines. Next to you your family sits, trying to act brave and not cry. You still don’t understand how your life went from being a happy normal life. Getting up and going to school, playing with your mates, worrying about school work, what your mum gave you for lunch, what winter sports team you’re going to get into this year. Getting home attacking the fridge, you do your homework, finished great, you relax, you realise that Mr Cav set you some homework, damn, you do that, great, time for bed. You’re lying there and you remember you have to present your English speech tomorrow, you feel well prepared. It’s the next day, Friday afternoon and you’re walking back to the train station with your mates, you’re in a happy mood, your class enjoyed your speech and it’s the weekend. Do you want to catch up for a movie tonight your friends ask, sure, you answer, you tell them you have a doctor’s appointment, the last few days you had been feeling a pain in your chest. You tell them you will meet them afterwards. You say good bye to your friends as you get off at your station. You see your mum waiting for you; she’s bought you something to eat. Thanks mum, you say. You’ve never really thought about how much she’s done for you. You drive to the doctors; you’re excited about tonight. There are some good movies on. The doctor walks in. He has a different look about him. He asks you to come with him. You walk in and he asks you to sit down. Its then that he tells you that you that one of your organs has stopped working properly. Your mum gasps as he tells you that you are going to die.

This isn’t the story of anyone in particular but a similar story that millions of people have gone through and will go through because there aren’t enough organ donors. Before you know it this could happen to not only other people but to me, you and the people who we love.

One organ and tissue donor can save the lives of up to ten people and significantly improve the lives of dozens  more

I strongly suggest you become an organ donor and save a person’s life.
